Land reclamation for 'the Sails', Gibraltar

In order to allow construction of 42 apartments in the Queensway Quay Marina, Lievense was asked by Van Oord to provide engineering services for a land reclamation of about 3600 m2. The perimeter of the reclamation would be constructed by means of caissons. Specific items were minimizing displacements during earthquake loading, to prevent damage to the apartments.

Lievense Consulting Engineers assisted the Client during the preliminary, final and detailed design of the reclamation, based on British Standards. Further services included specification and interpretation of soil investigations and fill materials. In addition, Lievense Consulting Engineers reviewed the detailed design calculations for the caissons made by a Spanish subcontractor and visited the construction site to check construction of the caissons according to specifications.
