Development of the KAI TEK Cruise Terminal

The Government of Hong Kong has requested a design and construct bid from suitable bidders to develop the cruise terminal on the former runway. The cruise terminal shall have a capacity of two Oasis class vessels. Lievense was retained by Dragages Hong Kong (a subsidiary of the French company Bouyques) to provide consultancy in the field of cruise terminal design, master planning and cruise operations. These services were carried out together with Passenger Terminal Amsterdam, the largest Dutch cruise terminal operator with large experience in turnaround and port of call vessels.

The terms of reference detailed the requirements of the structure to a major extent. In order to develop a outspoken bid, focus was laid in providing a facility not only optimal for cruise operations, but also for multi purpose use like exhibitions, large parties, conferences and festivals.

The facility has a total length of 600 m, 35 m wide, height of 30 m including 3 floors.

The work was performed in a multi disciplinary team of the contractor Dragages, architects, engineers and consultants., including Foster + Partners, Aecon and Bureau Happold.
